The founders

Flor de Maria Rodriguez and Thomas Stutzer met in Basel, Switzerland. She, Guatemalan resident and consultant to latin migrant women. He, director of projects dedicated to the integration of foreigners. In 2001 they got married and came to Guatemala to make a living from tourism.

After 6 months of construction, they opened the Hotel "Café del Sol" with 8 rooms and a restaurant on the beach of Monte Rico. Thomas and Flor were also founders of the "Monte Rico Hoteliers Association" (2003), the "Tourism Committee" (2004) and the "Eternal Spring Foundation" (2010), with which they supported the tourism development of Monte Rico for many years.

The expansion

Due to the good service provided by the hotel staff, the growth and loyalty of the clients and the excellent location in front of the sea, it was possible to build 6 more rooms in 2004. In 2009 it was possible to buy the large piece of land behind the existing facilities where in 2015 a large swimming pool for adults and children and solar equipment were built, producing an important part of the electrical energy consumed by the Hotel.

Retirement

After 20 years of dedication, hard work and success as hoteliers, the time came to pass the administration into the hands of younger and more skilled personnel for the challenges of the digital era of the world's hotels. Kevin García, nephew of the founders and business administrator, took the reins and hopefully in another 20 years he will be able to leave the succession in the hands of his own children or other relatives ready to manage the administration of the Hotel "Café del Sol "to his 3rd generation.
